Navy Yard Muster House

Navy Yard Muster House imageMuster House Office at the Brooklyn Navy Yard

In the 19th century Navy Yard workers “mustered” on the veranda to receive work assignments and pay. Here, as in so many Navy Yard views before the Civil War, it is clear that the locale was a popular destination for civilian audiences. In addition to military exhibitions and ship christenings, they attended lectures, demonstrations, and performances at various venues inside the Yard.
